From an early age, I have been fascinated with sound. With the click of the CD player, I can still evoke that same comfort and sense of home that Norah Jones and Jack Johnson brought, and the warmth of the holidays from Vince Guaraldi’s melodies.
I’ve played a variety of instruments over the years (piano, drums, harmonica, …), finding voice in youth bands, family gatherings, and even through releasing albums. I owe much of my early musical journey to Dr. Stephanie Honz, whose guidance in piano and theory opened up a world of possibilities for me, and to Dr. Dave Chisholm, who taught me artistry and production.
These days, I have a particular fondness for electronic music of all forms, from EDM to Lo-Fi to microtonal. I see every electronic piece as a way to explore the emotions inherent in the unlimited complexity of the unknown; a chance to push and redefine the boundaries of sound.
Music has also been a way to connect with others, sharing those same inarticulable feelings. I’ve had the joy of playing in bands with my cousins, rapping with friends, and performing in a youth band at my church, among other collaborations. I’ve also had the privelege of supporting the creative visions of others, whether by mastering friends’ albums, or composing original scores for student-led films here at RIT. Shared joy in vision and art is a true, lasting gift.
Below are some of my favorite works from the journey.
Chill Lofi Mix Vol. 1
Born out of late nights of music production and studying, Vol. 1 is a reflection on the emotional experience of listening to lo-fi, from moments of solitude in bustling spaces to slow drifts of the night.
