Chill Lofi Mix Vol. 1
The first album.
Born out of late nights of music production and studying, Vol. 1 is a reflection on the emotional experience of listening to lo-fi, from moments of solitude in bustling spaces to slow drifts of the night.
“Local Cafe” and “Subway Ride,” the album’s initial compositions, explore the microcosmic solitude of working alone admist a crowd. By weaving the ambient noise of public spaces into the fabric of the music, I aimed to blur the lines between the listener and the world outside, and evoke the experiences of connected solitude that I had felt through listening to music through half-open headphones.
Later tracks explore the interplay lo-fi and late nights. “Initium” serves as an overture of sorts, with its warped piano chords and detuned harmonies touring the chaotic ether of late-night creativity. As the album progresses, “12:01(am),” – named after the moment of its completion – marks a shift in the album towards introspection about weariness and the passage of time, and is soon followed by tracks such as “Thinking” that represent the stutters, ebbs, and flows of late-night thoughts. The album concludes with “Until Next Time,” where a subtle, continuous drop in pitch personifies the album’s numbing, slow descent into calm exhaustion.
My hope is that listeners may find a reflection of their own experiences in these tracks, whether they’re working late into the night or finding a moment of peace amongst a busy world.
